The Menteng Stadium demolition on July 26 by the Jakarta administration highlighted the fact that sports development in the country has been sidelined. The 86-year-old building was flattened to make way for a supposedly multipurpose open space in the plush Menteng residential area, dubbed the garden city during the Dutch colonial administration, and a five-story parking lot for 200 cars.

If medals were won for bounciness and banter, Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms would have enough to sink one of the party boats that cruise Melbourne's Yarra River on a nightly basis. Gail Emms won a silver medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004 with her badminton partner, Nathan Robertson. She's also won a Commonwealth Gold medal, and has been both British Mixed Ladies and Women's Double champion.
