KUCHING, June 15 (Bernama) -- Five Malaysian pairs and one Chinese pair booked berths in the men's doubles quarter-finals at the Proton Malaysia Open badminton tournament here Thursday.
Choong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah turned the tables against China's Xu Chen/Sun Junjie, beating them 21-18, 21-18.
Another Malaysian pair, Lin Woon Fui/Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari, made easy meat of team mates Au Kok Leong and Chang Hun Ping, winning 21-15, 21-8.
Chew Choon Eng and Hong Chieng Hun had an early scare in the first game but found their touch in the next game to beat team mates Hoon Thien How and Tan Boon Heong 25-23, 21-12.
However, Gan Teik Chai and Mohd Zakri Abdul Latif had to throw everything they had into the match when they were stretched to a rubber game by Hong Kong's Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama/Albertus Susanto Njoto before beating them 21-18, 18-21, 21-18.
Koo Kien Keat and Chan Chong Ming were the last Malaysian pair to make it through when they beat France's Svetoslav Stoyanov and Mihail Popov 21-16, 22-20.
The world number two doubles pair of Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun of China sailed through with an easy win when they beat Hwang Ji Man and Jung Tae Keuk of South Korea 21-16, 21-10.
